Cathode
Privacy & your data
A plain-language explanation of what Cathode stores and the controls available to you.
What Cathode stores
Cathode stores the email address used for your account, your TV-show library, episode watch state and viewing history, queue preferences, streaming region, and the recommendations you dismiss or have recently seen. Marking an episode unwatched changes progress but does not erase its prior viewing dates.
Passwords and session tokens are stored only as one-way hashes. Cathode does not store your streaming-service credentials or playback activity from other apps.
Why it is used
Your data powers account access, sync, Up Next, Calendar, watch progress, regional availability, and personalized Discover suggestions. Cathode has no advertising system and does not sell or use this information for cross-app tracking.
TV data providers
Cathode retrieves catalog, episode, cast, artwork, ratings, trailers, and JustWatch availability through TMDB. Requests use show identifiers and your selected country—not your email address or watch history.
Your choices
- Export: download a JSON copy of your account data from Settings.
- Correct: update your streaming region and watch state at any time.
- Secure: change your password and automatically sign out other devices.
- Delete: permanently remove your account and its user-owned data from the active database.
Retention & support
Account data remains until you remove it or delete the account. Short-lived sessions and generated recommendation caches are maintained only to operate Cathode. On a self-hosted server, backup retention and support are controlled by that server's administrator.
